Firefighters injured in Waterbury home fire

WATERBURY – Several firefighters were injured at a house fire when an explosion threw them off the porch.

Crews were called to a single family home on Pearl Lake Road around 8:30 a.m.

No one was home at the time the fire started in an attached garage behind the house.

An explosion threw one firefighter 10 feet into the yard and two other firefighters were thrown off the porch.

The injured firefighters were taken to the hospital. Three other firefighters were also transported to the hospital from heat exhaustion. All are expected to recover.

The house was determined to be not structurally safe and the fire marshal is investigating
