NEW BRITAIN--It took several months, but police have finally made an arrest in a homicide that occurred in September 2014.

On September 2, a 93-year-old woman was found in her son's home by EMS personnel, who said she had been severely neglected. Police say she was found covered in feces and had skin ulcers. She died two weeks later.

The woman has since been identified as Michaelina Simonetti, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide by neglect.

Frank Simonetti, 62,  a computer operator for St. Francis Hospital for 30 years and Michaelina's son, was supposed to be caring for his mother after she returned home from rehab after breaking her hip. After she died it took police some time to find him and inform him.

Police are also investigated Simonetti's sister's death, which occurred under similar circumstances in January 2014. Her death was also ruled a homicide, though police have not said if Simonetti or anyone else is a suspect in the case.

Simonetti was charged with first-degree manslaughter and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
