MERIDEN - Some dedicated motorcycle riders from Meriden put in long hours on the road Saturday to help provide free summer activities for the mentally challenged.
The motorcycle community takes up many causes, but this one is for a camp for people with developmental disabilities. Dirt bikes got in on the fundraiser for the John Jay Nerden camp, too.
"I have had so many parents come up to me and give me a hug with tears in their eyes and say thank you - you have no idea how much this means to me that you do this for our kids," said Dino Pandolfo , a trustee for the Meriden motorcycle club.
One of the things that makes this run unique is the bikes leave in small groups every few hours.
Being on beautiful back roads in the open air and helping some special needs folks enjoy some summer fun - that's what makes the Meriden motorcycle club look forward to this event every year.
