SHELTON – Police have recovered property they believe was stolen during car burglaries in eight towns in Southern Connecticut and charged a Bridgeport man in the incident.

Police arrested Jimmie Bennett, 48, of Bridgeport, on charges connected with the series of car burglaries, many of them at local hotels, parking lots and gyms.

Bennett was arrested on four outstanding arrest warrants. Bennett was charged with burglary, criminal mischief, and larceny.  He was also arrested Monday on burglary, larceny and criminal mischief charges in Milford. He was being held on $150,000 bond on the Milford charges.

Police said they identified Bennett as a suspect and saw him commit a burglary. They followed him to  a storage unit and later recovered between $175,000 and $200,000 worth of what they believe to be stolen merchandise

Most of the stolen property recovered has been identified as being reported stolen from Milford, Shelton, Stratford, Orange, Branford, Norwalk, Wallingford, and North Haven, according to police.
Police said if you had property stolen from a vehicle in those towns, to contact the local department.
