MILFORD -- Thousands gathered at Milford's Lisman Landing Marina, Thursday night, to celebrate our nation's independence. It was Milford's inaugural 'Kick-Off the Summer Blast.'

"Last year was our 375th anniversary for Milford, and we had two events with fireworks," said Dan Worroll, the event committee chairman. "A lot of people came out, it was great, everybody got together, so we said, let's do it for another year."

The bands Flashback, and The Rumrunners played music for dancing, several local food trucks served up dinner, and at 9:15 fireworks gave the crowd a reason to 'ooh' and 'ahh.'

While celebrating, many in attendance took a moment to reflect on what Independence Day means to them.

"It's a celebration of the nation," said Timothy Mulrenan, of Milford.

"I think about our country, and the freedom and what we fought for," said Audra Wilder of Milford.

"Independence Day wouldn't be Independence Day without the veterans," said Worroll. "They're the ones that enabled us to have Independence Day, not only the men and women that have served, but the men and women that are serving now, whether in the United States, or overseas."

Worroll says they hope to celebrate 'Kick-Off the Summer Blast' as an annual event.
