HARTFORD — The suspect in the shooting of a bystander at a basketball tournament was charged with murder Tuesday.

Hartford police charged Roosevelt Holmes with murder, in connection with the death of James Headen on  June 27.

Because of the new charges, Holmes’ bond was increased to $2.5 Million.

Roosevelt Holmes 23, of Windsor, was arrested shortly thereafter the shooting and held on $1 million bond for charges of criminal possession of a firearm, criminal attempt at assault in the first degree, assault in the first degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree and discharge of a firearm.

The shooting happened at a youth basketball tournament near the Sarah Rawson School on Holcomb Street. The shooting left one victim dead and three injured–including the suspect, who suffered a gunshot wound to his foot.

James Headen, 41, of Hartford, was fatally shot in the head. The two other people were shot, Justin Jones, 23, of Hartford, who was shot in the hip and Shawn Patterson, 24, of Hartford, who was shot in the hand, are expected to recover.
