HARTFORD -- Police responded to a shooting on Thursday evening, but it was quickly classified as a homicide.

Deputy Chief Brian Foley identified the victim as Daniel Sampel, 32, of Hartford. Sampel was shot and killed on New Park Avenue.

Police drew their guns and surrounded several businesses and homes because witnesses said they saw the suspect run into a building, but no suspect has been found.

Due to all the businesses in the area, police are hoping that surveillance video will help find the suspect. It also happened during the day in a fairly busy area. Police are hoping anyone who saw something will come forward.

Major Crimes Division, Shooting Task Force and patrol officers responded to the scene.
