HARTFORD - For the last 20 years, Woody Exley has run a scholarship fund geared toward college students who want to be educators. The inspiration for this program was his wife - the late Alma Exley. A teacher and educator, Alma Exley worked tirelessly to increase diversity among Connecticut'ss teaching ranks.

She died in 1995. But the impressive array of Exley scholars is her legacy.

Stan talks to two Exley scholars who are now teachers about the lack of minority teachers in the state and what can be done to improve recruitment and retention. Justis Lopez will be teaching at Manchester High in the fall and Ollie-Rubiah Williams will continue her teaching duties at the Farmington Valley diagnostic center.
