Coventry Crash

COVENTRY – On Saturday night just after 10:30 p.m. police responded to a two car head-on motor vehicle crash on Main Street near the intersection with Springdale Avenue.

According to police, two cars and the three occupants were involved, and it was determined that the motor vehicle traveling northbound on Main Street had crossed the center line and struck the southbound vehicle head-on.

According to police, the driver of the car that caused the accident had been in the process of sending a text message from a cell phone.

All three people were transported to local hospitals and treated for minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

Since January police have conducted 108 motor vehicle stops pertaining to distracted driving offenses, most of which are cell phone violations.

Driving while using cell phone, either talking or sending/typing/reading a text message, is against the law in Connecticut.

Infractions for violating this law can range from between $150-450, depending on the number of driver infractions
