HAMDEN — Police in Hamden are investigating a severe stabbing that occurred Sunday outside the P&M Corner Mart near Butler and Goodrich Streets.

Police say the 53-year-old victim was stabbed in the chest, stomach, and arm. He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

The victim says he got out of his car to buy something at the corner store. That’s when a man came up to him asking for money. The victim says he promised the man money after he made his purchase.

Shortly after leaving the store, police say Richard Moore-Taylor, 32, began stabbing the victim. Then, he tried to steal the victim’s car, but couldn’t get it into gear, according to police.

Officers found Moore-Taylor running down Butler Street and arrested him.

He’s charged with assault, robbery, and larceny.  Moore-Taylor is being held on $250,000 bond, is due in Meriden on July 27.
