TORRINGTON — Police responded to the former Kmart building on Main Street in Torrington Wednesday morning because of a 911 call that someone fell off the roof– but when they arrived they found out there was a lot more to the story.

Police said they discovered that the man who fell, and the person who called police were both in the process of stealing from the building when the man was injured.

The store has been closed since December, the Hartford Courant reports, but the men were there to steal copper from the air conditioning units on top of the store, police said.

Jason Alexson, 33, or Torrington, is in critical condition at Hartford hospital.

Jackob Newman, 33, also of Torrington, was arrested and charged with larceny, trespassing, and criminal mischief.
