MIDDLETOWN — Paying for parking just got a little easier in Middletown. The city has a new app that lets people pay straight from their smartphone.

The free app is called Parkmobile and it lets people avoid the hassle of scrambling to find change or their credit card to pay for parking.

The app is free to download and takes less than five minutes to create an account.

Once you find a spot to park, you activate your session straight from your phone and then all you need to do is look for Parkmobile signs. The signs have a zone number that you enter and you’re good to go.

The app will work in several areas of the city but not everywhere so that is why you’ll need to look for those designated areas.

If you’re out enjoying dinner and you realize your meter is almost up, you can extend it straight from your phone, as long as you’re not going over the meter time limit if there is one.

When you pay, payments won’t show up on the meter or kiosk itself. But, parking enforcement officers will have that information.

Every time you initiate a parking session, there is a .30 cent transaction fee on top of the parking fee.

The Parkmobile app is used in hundreds of cities across the country, including Hartford, Norwalk and New Haven as well as other across the state.
