NEW HAVEN — Police announced Wednesday that they’ve made three arrests in connection with a 2014 fatal shooting of a high school student in New Haven.
On April 3, 2014 police found Torrence “TJ” Gamble, 16, on the ground in front of 78 Daggett Street with a gunshot wound on his head.
Gamble, a student at New Haven’s Riverside Academy, was pronounced dead at the hospital hours later.
After a year of investigating, officers from the New Haven Police Major Crimes Division and Bureau of Investigation said they’ve discovered the three men responsible, and they arrested three suspects.
Two teenagers and one adult were charged in the case Tuesday.
Police said the suspected shooter was a New Haven teen, who is now 17. He is charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and carrying a pistol without a permit. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
The other teen is also 17 and he was already behind bars on unrelated charges. He was charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Police are not releasing the names of the teens. He has a $600,000 bond.
“Whiteboy” John Helwig, 22, of Milford, was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and criminal liability for acts of another.
Helwig is being held on an $850,000 bond.
