MADISON, Conn. — If you’re spending time outdoors, pack some spare change with your beach bags and picnic baskets.

State sales tax will be added to parking fees at three shoreline state parks for the first time this weekend.

Beginning Saturday, a 6.35 percent sales tax will be added to the bill at Sherwood Island, Hammonasset beach, and Rocky Neck State Parks.

Other state parks will be added in the near future.

It’s part of the two-year $40 billion budget.

Current fees range from $5 to $22, depending on the park, day of week and time of day.
