Car slams into Hartford mosque, causes severe damage

HARTFORD — A building has partially collapsed after a car slammed into it.

The crash happened shortly before 2 a.m. on Saturday at the Masjid Umar Ibn Al Khattab Mosque at 2017 Main Street.

According to police, a car was traveling  northbound on Main Street at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control and the car began to spin.

The building collapsed on the car once it stopped inside the building. The fire department transported the driver to Hartford Hospital after pulling them from the car.

Building inspectors are evaluating the damage. The accident is under investigation.
