NEW HAVEN -- Foxon Boulevard, near the Sunoco gas station near Quinnipiac Avenue was closed for much of the day Monday, while police investigated a shooting. Police say someone called 911 just after 8 a.m. and said someone had been shot.

Police say Donald Keys, 20, of New Haven was shot in the head. He is in critical but stable condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital. When he was brought in, he he was alert and talking with medical personnel.

The Sunoco station has surveillance cameras, but only inside. Given that the shooting happened outside the door to the convenience store portion of the business, police say they have few video clues from this business. However, they believe neighboring businesses, coupled with information from possible witnesses, will provide them with more direction as they continue their search for a suspect or suspects. Police were not even certain whether the suspects ran away or drove off.  People at the scene have been cooperative with investigators, but as of yet, no one has been able to describe the shooter or any possible get-away vehicle.

Anyone who sees someone who appears to be hiding or generally suspicious is urged to call police immediately. The weapon used has not been recovered. Detectives are asking for the public’s help. They urge anyone with information on this crime to phone them at 203-946-6304.
