"The project's a go," said John Bernick, Assistant Rail Administrator for the Connecticut Department of Transportation. "We're in the ground already there's no turning back now."
The trains will run parallel to the I-91 Corridor on a line called the "Hartford Line." Trains will run every 45 minutes during peak times, and 90 minutes during off-peak times.
Stations include Hartford, Windsor, Windsor Locks, Berlin, Wallingford, North Haven, and New Haven. Future stations are planned for West Hartford, Newington, and Enfield.
New Haven's State Street Station is one of the stations slated for a major renovation and update.
Plans are to construct a 400 foot ADA compliant high-level platform and a canopy covering a portion of the platform. Additional enhancements will include state-of-the-art video surveillance and passenger information systems, an automatic snow-melt system, stair and elevator access and the installation of fiber optic communication/signal cables.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2016 and would be completed in late 2017.
Another meeting is scheduled Wednesday on July 29 at 6 p.m. in the Ludlow Room in Windsor's Town Hall, located at 275 Broad Street.
