BOSTON – The Red Sox will honor K-9 units from West Hartford and Norwalk as K-9 Heroes of 2014.

West Hartford police officer Thomas Lazure and his K-9, Jett, took first place as the K-9 Hero of 2014 for all of New England.

This week the K-9 team was notified by the Federal Law Enforcement Officer’s Association that they were the “people’s’ choice” for the award.

The team will be honored, along with the runner-up K-9 teams, at Fenway Park during Monday’s game.

Norwalk police officers, Montanez, Kruger and Peterson and their K-9 units Kai, Rainor and Kimbo will also head to Law Enforcement Appreciation Night at Fenway Park on Monday.

According to the Red Sox , on July 31, 2014, Jett and Lazure responded to the scene of an attempted carjacking where a suspect had fired several shots at somebody. While enroute to the scene, the carjack suspect fired a weapon at a Hartford police officer and the gun malfunctioned. Jett was deployed with the Hartford SWAT team to track the subject and established an air scent and located the subject in an unlit residential backyard. Knowing the suspect had already fired his weapon at a Hartford police officer, Lazure had seconds to decide if he should release Jett to apprehend the suspect. The suspect was combative with Jett but was ultimately taken into custody.
