, who grew up in Litchfield, lost his left leg in Afghanistan in 2011. He visited the Fox CT Morning News to talk about his current career as a race car driver.

He returns to Lime Rock Park this weekend to race in the Northeast GrandPrix. Dwyer won his first professional race last year atLime Rock.

He currently leads the Continental Tire SportsCar Championship Street Tuner (ST) division, co-driving the No. 25 SemperFiFund.org Mazda MX-5 with Andrew Carbonell. He scored his second victory earlier this year at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in May.

In addition to his prosthetic leg, Dwyer's right knee has been replaced, and his right arm is held together with a steel rod and 23 screws. Told by a therapist he would never drive a standard shift car again, he swore, went out and learned how and came back to the therapist and said, “Don’t ever tell me what I can do and what I can’t do.”

He's involved in Racing4vets, a program that gets veterans in race cars teaches them to race.

Dwyer will be racing this weekend in the Northeast GrandPrix at LimeRock Park.
