1 dead, 1 in critical condition after Berlin crash

BERLIN– Police in Berlin are investigating an early-morning crash between a car and a motorcycle.

It happened around 12:17 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of the Berlin Turnpike and Overhill Road.

A motorcycle crashed into the side of a car, police said.

The motorcycle driver was transported to Mid-State Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. He was later idetnified as Nelson A. Gonzalez Jr., 26, of Meriden.

Witnesses told officers the motorcycle hit the side of a car as it was making a u-turn on the Berlin Turnpike near Overhill Road just after midnight on Sunday.

Carolyn Longyear, 29, of Cromwell, who was driving the car, was seriously injured and underwent surgery at Hartford Hospital. She is in guarded condition, police said.

A passenger on the motorcycle also was injured.

The road was closed for several hours.

Berlin police are asking anyone who may have seen the crash to call investigators.
