HARTFORD — A public hearing Monday could impact proposals from three insurance companies to raise health insurance costs. More than 70,000 Connecticut policyholders could be impacted by the hikes.

The three companies are: Anthem, ConnectiCare and Golden Rule.

Already hundreds of comments have been coming in from the public urging state regulators to reject the proposed rate increases and during the public hearing people are expected to come forward and express their opinion on the matter. The rate filing hearings will take place at 153 Market Street, Hartford on the 7th floor in room 701.

The companies are looking to increase insurance rates in the 2016 coverage year for policyholders who purchased insurance through the state’s individual market.

The proposals must first gain regulatory approval before they are implemented and part of the reason for the public hearing is so the public receives a full disclosure of the facts and factors that lead insurers to raise rates.

Final decisions are expected to be made by late August.
