West Haven police identify man shot and killed overnight

WEST HAVEN — Police have identified a man who was shot and killed on Sunday night, just before 10 p.m.

Just before 10 p.m. police were called to the intersection of Jaffrey and Dalton streets for reports of gunshots. Officers found several shell casings, but no victims.

At the same time, Yale New Haven Hospital contacted police and reported they had a victim who was shot in the chest. The victim, who has been identified as Laquan Young, 24, of New Haven, later died as a result of his wound. The victim was transported to the hospital by someone else, who police are interviewing as a witness.

Police say they will update the case as they learn more information.
