NEWINGTON--It may only take 100 licks to get to the cone, but Mortensen's Dairy Ice Cream is celebrating an even bigger milestone: 100 years in business.

The Newington ice cream shop offered up free soft-serve all day on Tuesday to commemorate the business' long run, and fans came in all day to enjoy the treats.

The family-owned and operated store has been run as such since its beginning--Elmer Mortensen started off in 1915 delivering milk door-to-door!--and it continues to make its own signature ice cream using local cream and fruit to create exotic flavors.

The beloved store doesn't just have fans--it has generations of families coming back for more!

Mortensen's is located at 3145 Berlin Tpke. in Newington, and is open Sundays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. There is also a Cromwell location at 27 Shunpike Rd.
