NEW LONDON--A Spanish treasure, now docked in New London.
El Galeón is a replica of an 18th century cargo ship which would transport gold, silver and spices from the Americas back to Spain.
The ship, built and completed in 2009, is authentic in every way, including 12 cannons onboard.
El Galeón is also fully functional.
"There is (other) replicas, but they are in the land, no sailing like us," Fernando Viota, El Galeon's manager, said.
The vessel will be docked in Connecticut until August 9.
It expects to make the trip across the Atlantic Ocean later this year and be back in Spain in November.
