NEW YORK — Endangered animals took over the empire state building Saturday night.

Pictures of birds, tigers, bears and other animals were projected onto the landmark to draw attention to their rapid extinction.

Crowds stopped on city streets everywhere, peering at the video projection.

Organizers said this was the first time this type of presentation was ever shown.

The event was part of a promotion for a Discovery Channel documentary set to air later this year.
