West Haven man dead after bar fight ends up in water

BRIDGEPORT – One man is dead after a bar fight in Bridgeport ended up in the water.

Wayne Bentley, 42, of West Haven, apparently drowned, police said.

Police said that at around 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Bentley and another person were fighting behind Chubby’s Bar & Grill on Fairfield Avenue near the Bridgeport-Fairfield line.

Police believe the two men who were fighting fell into the water behind the restaurant and Bentley apparently drowned.

Police are still looking for the other man involved in the fight, who fled the scene.

No weapons were involved with this incident according to police.

The incident remains an apparent drowning, but the official cause of death hasn’t been declared yet.

This remains an active investigation.
