WEATHERFORD, Tx — Six-year-old Mayli has spina bifida and has been paralyzed since birth. But that’s not stopping her from doing the “Whip/Nae Nae” and taking the dance floor by storm with her friends.
“She uses a wheelchair to get around and while some people may think she’s “confined” to her chair, her chair is actually her means of freedom and independence,” her mother writes on Facebook. “Mayli is a dancer, if there is a beat she’s moving to it. It doesn’t matter the genre of music she loves it all!”
Mayli’s mom started a dance class specifically for kids in wheelchairs. The dance team is called “Ayita” — Cherokee for “First to Dance.” She filmed Mayli and her friend Brooklyn doing the “Whip/NaeNae”in the kitchen and it quickly went viral.
You can support Ayita Wheelchair Dance through their GoFundMe page.
“Dancing makes my heart happy!” – Mayli writes.
