Conn. Parks Turn 100: Silver Sands State Park

HARTFORD — Connecticut officials will be unveiling plans to make wide-ranging improvements to the Silver Sands State Park in Milford.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has scheduled a public information meeting at Milford Town Hall on Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the changes, which include adding public restrooms, lifeguard and law enforcement space, and a snack bar with a wraparound deck.

Wildlife habitat improvements are also planned.

The state has invested more than $10 million on Silver Sands since 1960, when it acquired the property. Much of the site was a former city landfill.

The Sept. 24 meeting is separate from a scheduled formal public hearing that’s needed for the tidal wetlands permit required for the project. That hearing is scheduled for Oct. 1 at Milford Town hall.
