EASTON – The family of the missing Easton couple believe the couple’s financial issues have not proven to be a factor in their disappearance.
The statement, released through the Easton Police Department, said the family is hoping for Jeanette and Jeffrey Navin’s safe return.
The family said money in their banks accounts has been untouched.
Police also released an updated photo of the couple.
According to court documents, the Navins owe almost $2.3 million on a Guilford home which the bank foreclosed on.
They also owe CL&P, now Eversource, almost $140,000 for overdue power bills.
“They’re hardworking people. That’s what we’ve learned. They’re hardworking people, who like to travel,” Chief Tim Shaw of the Easton Police Department said.
Co-workers last spotted Jeanette and Jeffrey Navin last Tuesday and family members reported them missing on Friday.
Family told police that the last time they saw or heard from Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin was August 4.
On Sunday, Easton police found their car in a Westport commuter lot off of Exit 42 on the Merritt Parkway.
Police are checking to see if the couple left on a flight out of one of the New York City area airports.
Investigators don’t suspect foul play but also aren’t sure where the couple may be. Primary assistance is coming from the State Police Major Crime Unit. They are working with the FBI but this is the very initial stage of the investigation.

We are shocked and saddened at the unexpected disappearance of Jeff and Jeanette Navin. There are no words to describe the impact this has had on their parents, siblings, and children. We wish only for their safe return and we ask for anyone who has seen either of them since Tuesday, August 4th, to contact the Easton police.
Financial issues recently reported by the media have not been proven to be a factor for our family members’ disappearance. Information from the authorities indicates that there are available funds still in their bank accounts that are untouched. We, the entire Navin family, ask for privacy and respect during this overwhelming and troubling time.
