BRISTOL--A staple of the American amusement park landscape for centuries, and many names for the beloved ride.

Merry-go-round, whirley-gig, spinning Jenny, flying horses--call it what you will, the carousel has been a piece of Americana for centuries. With roots in the medieval days, the popular ride has evolved quite a bit over time.

On this week's Hidden History, photojournalist Mike Townsend makes the rounds at the New England Carousel Museum in Bristol. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 to 5, and Sunday from 12 to 5 year round.
