NEW HAVEN — Police found two bodies decomposing in a New Haven home Saturday.

Police said a man and woman were found dead at a home at 655 Whitney Avenue after reports of a large number of flies and a strong odor.

Detectives did not identify the two people but they say the man was about 89 years old and the woman was about 77 years old.

Police forced their way into the home and they found the home cluttered with “hoarded items” like books, furniture and debris.

The bodies had been dead for some time, police said, because of the level of decomposition.

Detectives had to wear personal protective clothing and respirators due to the condition within the home.

Police said there is nothing “inherently suspicious” about the deaths.
