WINDSOR LOCKS — The Hartford area may be getting its own outlet mall.

The company that owns the outlets in Clinton, Simon Property Group, submitted a new proposal to build Hartford Premium Outlets.

The site would be located in Windsor Locks near the intersection of route 20 and I-91 on Old Country Road.

It would feature 350,000 square feet of shops and restaurants. The outdoor mall would also include fountains, art, a children’s play area, and an outdoor fireplace.

“This project will allow Simon Property Group to create retail space that will lead to hundreds of new jobs for area residents, attract visitors, and boost the overall economic development base for the region,” Governor Dannel Malloy said.

The company says, if approved, construction could begin in 2016 and it would open in 2017.
