STORRS — It was no small feat to line up 3,000 new students to spell UCONN on the Great Lawn Saturday in a formation that was 90 yards wide and 35 yards tall.

Taking place at 8 a.m. the day after the arrival of the Class of 2019, the event was captured by UConn photographer Peter Morenus and videographer Elizabeth Caron. Morenus was hoisted 100 feet in the air to document it.

The University of Connecticut says it is the largest-ever freshman class with about 5,200 freshmen entering UConn. Members of the freshman class began moving into dorms Friday and will be joined by returning students throughout the weekend.

About 12,700 students are expected to live on campus, with a total of about 23,000 undergraduate students set to begin the semester when classes start Monday.

Of that number, 18,000 students will be at Storrs.

The Class of 2019 at Storrs had an average SAT score of 1233, up from an average of 1212 five years ago.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
