AVON - When 8-year-old Teagan Stedman heard that his friend was battling non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, he wanted to act, to contribute.

"There was really nothing I could do. There was kind of this wall for youth to get involved in the cause," explains this young man, now headed into the tenth grade at the Westminster School.

As an avid guitarist, he started Shred Kids' Cancer, an organization that raises awareness and funds for pediatric cancer through events.

In seven years, this young philanthropist has made an astounding difference: "We've raised $300,000 to date and that's gone to funding eight clinical trials for pediatric cancer research."

Stedman recently relocated from California to Connecticut — the new home of Shred Kids' Cancer. He hopes his mission takes root here with renewed participation and support from local families.
