BRIDGEPORT - Firefighters are working on putting out a fire that broke out at the old AGI Rubber factory on Stratford Avenue and Kossuth Street near the bridge

“Firefighters continue working hard to put out the blaze,” said Bridgeport Public Safety Spokesman Kevin Coughlin in a statement released at 6 p.m.. “We encourage folks travelling in the area to steer clear until the fire is out.”

At around 1 p.m. today, firefighters responded to a small blaze at the factory.

Firefighters were able to put out this smaller blaze, but at around 2:15 p.m., reports came in regarding a larger fire at the same site.

At least seven Bridgeport fire companies were dispatched to the scene, and the fire boat and stingers were being used to combat the blaze.

The American Medical Response set up a relief station at the scene. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
