BRIDGEPORT — A former nurse’s aide has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting five male hospital patients over three years.

The Connecticut Post reports that Gonzalo Flores apologized in court Friday and asked for forgiveness.

His lawyer urged Superior Court Judge Robert Devlin for a more lenient sentence. He said Flores accepts responsibility and that by pleading guilty, he spared his victims from testifying.

Flores pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting five patients at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Authorities say the statute of limitations ran out on two other assaults.

The 54-year-old Flores has tested positive for HIV and a lawyer says his client is concerned about his health.

The hospital faces nearly $100 million in lawsuits by the victims. Hospital officials have said Flores was quickly fired.
