MADISON -- Hammonasset Beach State Park was filled to capacity Friday evening as campers and holiday travelers descended on the shore line to enjoy the waning days of Summer.

"It went by too fast. Way too fast," said Mike Maler of Branford. "It's close to home but it still feels like it's far away and you can't go wrong with the beaches, the amount of beaches, beach area that's here, campgrounds are nice and clean so it's going to be a great weekend."

Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection reported capacity bookings at all of the state's camp grounds. Officials asked day trippers to arrive early to snag a spot on the beach and exercise caution around swimming areas due to a reduced number of life guards on duty.
