Old Lyme fatal accident

NEW LONDON – The truck driver charged in an East Lyme accident that killed two women on I-95 last month was in New London Superior Court Friday.

Sixty-one-year-old Hilda Thomas of Maryland and 39-year-old Stacy Lockhart of Alabama were travelling through Old Lyme to a vacation on Martha’s Vineyard when they were killed in a crash that injured eight others on August 15.

Sixty-six-year-old Rowan A. Phillip of New Jersey faces multiple charges, including two counts of misconduct with a motor vehicle and felony charges that could put him behind bars for up to a decade.

He was driving his New England Motor Freight truck with a suspended license.

The families of several of the victims of the fatal truck crash intended to fully exercise their rights to monitor and support or object to any proposed plea bargain in the criminal case against Phillip.
