WESTPORT – On Saturday at around 11:20 a.m. the Westport Police Marine Division received a radio distress call regarding a capsized canoe with three men in the water east of Cockenoe Island.

Police responded to the area in boat and located the men floating in the water.

All three were pulled from the water onto the police boat and found to be in good health.

All were wearing life jackets at the time their 18 foot canoe tipped over. Their canoe was recovered and towed to Compo Marina.

The three men had been fishing and capsized in the choppy waters. They reported they were in the water for 15 minutes before a passing sailboat spotted them and radioed the distress call.
