HARTFORD — A prisoner at Hartford Correctional Center was caught while trying to make an escape attempt Saturday afternoon, the Department of Corrections confirms.

Department officials said Raul Santana was only in custody at the facility for four days before he tried to break out.

Officers spotted him on the roof near the recreation yard, and the facility was immediately locked down.

Soon after, police found him hiding in the back of a facility truck parked on the grounds.

He never left the secured perimeter that protects the nearby neighborhood, according to the Department of Corrections.

Santana, 25, of Hartford, was charged with attempted escape.

Santana was in custody at Hartford Correctional Center since Sept. 1 for criminal trespass charges.
