LEDYARD–Route 117 in Ledyard has reopened after a two-car crash.

At 7:27 p.m. on Monday there was a two-car crash on Route 117 at the intersection with Thomas Road. The car versus motorcycle crash was a head-on, and both vehicles caught fire, becoming fully involved before the fire department arrived.

The driver and passenger in the car got out on their own, and both were taken to the hospital. LifeStar was initially called for the motorcyclist, but was then cancelled.

The fires from the vehicles caused small brush fires, which were all extinguished.

The road remains closed between Rose Hill Road and Spicer Hill Road as of 10 p.m.

The Gales Ferry Fire Company wrote on Twitter that it was responding to the “serious” crash along with Ledyard’s fire and police departments.

The Poquetanuck Fire Department also assisted on the scene.
