Ryan Vilfranche arrived in this world during the morning rush hour at 8 a.m., and he picked one of the busiest sections of highway in the state, near exit 16 on I-95 south in Norwalk.

His father, Ricardo Vilfranche, called 911 when he was no longer able to drive in the emergency lane and his wife's contractions started coming faster.

"When I got to like Stratford, it was another animal altogether. It was literally like, get this baby out of me!" Vilfranche said, referencing his wife, Anne Victorin.

State police said the baby was delivered by an EMS paramedic in the back of the ambulance.  Two state troopers and two Norwalk police officers assisted Victorin until EMS arrived. One lane was blocked for emergency crews.

The mother and the baby boy were safely taken to Norwalk Hospital and are doing well.

“I honestly didn’t feel good until I heard that baby cry in the ambulance," Ricardo Vilfranche told reporters.

Vilfranche said he is grateful to all of the first responders who helped deliver Ryan. Mom and baby are healthy. Ryan was born weighing 6 pounds and 3 ounces.
