On December 5, Jaleah Jayde Quintero died while in the car of Janell Campbell, 22, a friend of the baby’s mother.
A friend of Campbell told Fox CT at the time that it was an accident, that Campbell and the baby were sleeping together and she rolled onto the baby. Jaleah’s family said that was untrue.
Even though the arrest warrant remained sealed, the family revealed that Jaleah suffered bruising on three parts of her tiny body.
Jaleah’s mother, Marrysa Vega, later told Fox CT that she left her baby with Campbell for just 20 minutes to step out of her house.
Campbell was sentenced on Wednesday to eight years in jail, followed by two years of parole after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the second degree and risk of injury to a child.
Police say Campbell told them she was “very drunk” and the child slipped out of her hands and fell to the floor.
