HARTFORD -- Employees from The Hartford marked 9/11 by taking the day off and spending their time volunteering. More than 1,400 volunteers cleaned up Hartford's Pope Park among other volunteer sites.

This is the fourth year employees have volunteered their time, marking the annual Day of Service on September 11.

"It allows us to remember the events of 9/11," said Rich Campbell, Senior Vice President at The Hartford. "It's good engagement, team building, and an opportunity to give back to the community."

Today's National Day of Service and Remembrance marks the start of The Hartford’s Annual Giving Campaign, in partnership with United Way.
