Yard Goats theft

HARTFORD — A Manchester man is facing several charges after police say he tried to break in to the under construction Dunkin Donuts stadium.

An off-duty Hartford Police Officer was on his way into work and saw the suspect climbing the northeast fence of the future home to the Hartford Yard Goats baseball team.

Police say the ballpark has recently been plagued with burglaries from the site, and its construction trailers. Patrol units were dispatched to the area. A Hartford Police Sergeant found the suspect and stopped him.

Police say Courtney Newman, 28, had a bag of .22 caliber ammunition in his sock, along with a full face three-hole ski mask. Police say Newman is a convicted felon with a previous felony weapon charge conviction.

He is being held on $10,000 bond.
