BRIDGEPORT — State Police were led on a car chase Wednesday afternoon on I-95 South in Bridgeport near Exit 29.
Around 1 p.m., a Trooper noticed a red Mercury Sable driving at a high speed and signaled the driver to pull over. Police say the driver would not stop and instead sped up, prompting a high speed chase. The driver then got on Route 25 Northbound and exited at Exit 2. Police say the driver Pablo Pagan, 33, of Bridgeport then tried to drive over a curb on Milne Street, where the car stopped because of a flat tire.
The suspect then got out of the car and took off, running through backyards and jumping over fences. Bridgeport Police officers assisted in the search by setting up a perimeter and a State Police K-9 unit responded to track the suspect.
Police say they eventually found the suspect hiding in the basement of a house he broke into on Vine Street.
Pagan was arrested and charged with engaging in pursuit, interfering with police, second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal trespass, reckless driving, operating under suspension, operating an unregistered moor vehicle, misuse of registration, operating without insurance, and speeding.
Pagan was held on a $25,000 bond and will appear in in Bridgeport Superior Court on Sept. 28.
