WINDSOR LOCKS — State environmental officials say emergency response workers are supervising a clean-up of jet fuel spilled at Bradley International Airport.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said Thursday a section of an affected pipeline is about a half-mile long, extending from a bulk storage fuel terminal to a loading rack in the airport.

The cause of the release Thursday and any impact on soil contamination are not known.

The spill filled a valve pit with about 2,500 gallons. The valve pit overflowed and fuel spilled across the ground surface to a paved street and along a curb line extending about 1/8 mile.

Environmental officials say no waterways or catch basins were affected.

The company that leases the pipeline has hired an environmental contractor to recover fuel and clean the area under state supervision.
