Coast Guard Offers Boating Safety Tips

WATCH HILL, R.I.–Police and the Coast Guard are investigating the death of a boater off of Rhode Island’s shore.

At 10:18 a.m. on Tuesday, the Coast Guard responded to a boat collision involving a 60-foot Viking yacht and a 25-foot Parker vessel near Watch Hill, Rhode Island.

The yacht reportedly ran over the smaller boat, capsizing it. One of the people on board died.

A good Samaritan helped keep an eye on the location of the person who ultimately died while waiting for the Coast Guard to respond from New London. Rescuers arrived on scene at 10:46 a.m. and pulled the unresponsive person from the capsized boat.

One of the boats involved in the crash capsized, and one of the people on board died.

The New London Coast Guard, Westerly Fire Department, New York State Police Marine Unit and Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection all responded to the incident.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
