SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — State gambling regulators are not guaranteeing they’ll issue the state’s third and final casino license.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission said Thursday it’s still actively reviewing Mass Gaming and Entertainment, the lone applicant for the license.

Commission members say they’re not willing to commit to completing the licensing process as the company — which is proposing a $650 million casino in Brockton — seeks.

The discussion followed last week’s surprise news that the federal government is placing 151 acres into trust for the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe, which wants to build a $500 million casino in Taunton, about 20 miles from Brockton.

Earlier Thursday, the commission questioned MGM officials about major redesigns proposed for the company’s $800 million Springfield casino.

Some expressed concerns and frustration at the changes.
