BRIDGEPORT--Kyle Navin pleaded not guilty to a federal firearms charge during his arraignment on Thursday.
The 27-year-old was arrest for possession of a firearm by an unlawful drug user on September 8 after two guns and a cache of ammunition, as well as drug paraphernalia, were found in his Bridgeport home.
The search of his home, which was done in response to his parents Jeanette and Jeffrey going missing, is what caused police to find the illegal guns.
Kyle's parents were last seen on August 4, and Jeffrey's brother reported them missing on August 7.
State Police confirmed on Thursday that they are not calling Kyle a person of interest or a suspect in his parents' disappearance at this time. However, his arrest warrant reveals more about the investigation to find his parents.
According to his arrest warrant, police searched Kyle's home during the search for his parents because when interviewed, he changed his story about where he was when his parents vanished multiple times. His cell phone records also indicate Kyle lied about where he was on the day they were reported missing.
Another facet in the investigation was a series of text messages that were sent between Kyle and his parents on August 4.
Kyle responded "No absolutely not why would you think?"
Jeffrey then said, "I go home and get framed for murder."
Later that day both of the elder Navins' phones became inactive, and no longer recorded location data.
Other incriminating pieces of evidence include surveillance video showing Kyle's girlfriend driving her car closely behind Jeffrey's garbage truck towards the Navins' Easton home. The girlfriend initially lied about her whereabouts that day, but later admitted that Kyle asked her to follow him as he drove his dad's truck to his parent's house. The girlfriend told police that he asked her to do that so he could leave the truck and then be taken back to his home in Bridgeport.
Also, on August 9, police found the Navins' pickup truck abandoned at a Westport park-and-ride. The car had a broken window, and "suspected physiological fluid" inside of it.
Police have searched a landfill in Putnam several times looking for remains.
Jury selection begins on November 9, according to the Associated Press.
